(SCIO, Ore.) - Linn County Sheriff Tim Mueller says deputies there are investigating an animal neglect case involving several malnourished horses.

Mueller reports that on July 30th, the Sheriff’s Office received word that a horse located on Robinson Drive in Scio was not being cared for properly.

"Upon investigating the complaint the Sheriff’s Office found seven horses in a pasture not quite two acres in size. Four of the horses were found to be healthy but the remaining three were malnourished and in poor condition."

He says over the weekend, Linn County Sheriff’s deputies executed a search and animal seizure warrant at 37890 Robinson Drive.

"The property owner had allowed the horses to be boarded on the property, however was not responsible for the care of the horses. Three of seven horses on the property were examined by a local veterinarian. Two geldings and a mare were seized for malnourishment and neglect."

Local volunteers assisted with transporting the horses to approved local foster care facilities.

The three owners of the horses were arrested for Animal Neglect II. 44-year old Tammy Mae Adair-Snyder, 46-year old Mark Kevin Mask, and 38-year old Walter Lee Eaton, all of Scio, were taken to the Linn County Jail where they were booked and released.

This is so sad when our fields are full of grass,(hay) and a $3.00 or $5.00 bale cost to much. They can buy their beer and smokes but not FOOD for the animals they keep. Hope the best now for the horses, they deserve better! The horse got us where we are today.

It always amazes me when some people think they should have horses and yet they don't have the property to keep them or the time to take care of them. Get a clue folks! If you don't have the property to keep a horse, rent one if you feel the desire to ride. sheesh!
