Joint Letter Calling for Dismissal of Phnom Penh Deputy Police Chief Phuong Malay

Cambodia is a party to the UN Convention for the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women; yet police are still allowed to abuse and torment female victims.

Police abuse of peaceful protestors is a problem that spans the world. Occupy demonstrators in the U.S. have been harmed time and time again, many seriously.

In Cambodia the same thing takes place, but their police drew world attention when they kicked a 25-year old pregnant woman in the stomach and caused her to lose her unborn child.

Below is a joint open letter from Cambodian and International organizations to Cambodian government officials, calling for the dismissal of Deputy Police Chief of Phnom Penh Municipality, Phuong Malay, after he directed discriminatory comments at a female Boeung Kak protester who miscarried
