(ALBANY, Ore. ) - The Community Health Centers and the Oregon State University College of Pharmacy will be launching pharmacy services at the Health Centers with a grand opening event.

The event is scheduled from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 15, at the Benton County Health Department, 530 NW 27th St., in Corvallis. The public is invited to the free event, which will include refreshments and a brief program at 10:15 a.m.

The College of Pharmacy and Health Centers have teamed up to operate the full-service pharmacy, which will be available only to Health Center clients and will be operated by College of Pharmacy faculty, staff and students.

In addition to dispensing medications, the pharmacy staff will provide medication education, help with medication adherence and many more services. The clinical pharmacists also will continue working closely with the primary care teams of the Health Centers to provide services.

As a Federally Qualified Health Center, the Community Health Centers has the ability to buy medications at a lower cost and pass savings along to clients. By opening a pharmacy on-site, it can ensure clients have access to the most affordable medications available in a location that is easy for them to access.

Those receiving primary care, family planning and mental health services from the Benton County Health Department or Community Health Centers are eligible to use the pharmacy.

Albany News and Events: Family Movie Night at Albany Community Pool Albany Parks and Recreation Department will show “Rio 2” at 7:00 p.m. Friday, August 15, for Family Movie Night at Albany Community Pool, 2150 36th Avenue SE.

Movie-goers are encouraged to bring a favorite inflatable and watch the movie while they swim. Snacks will be part of the fun.

Family cost is $10 for the first six; additional children $2 each; $3 for ages 18 and under; and $3.50 for those over 18.

Children under age six and/or using a lifejacket must have an adult within reach of them in the water.

2014 ATI Northwest Art & Air Festival Crew for Balloon Launches

Albany Parks & Recreation is accepting applications for crew members needed during the balloon launches August 22-24, for the ATI Northwest Art & Air Festival at Timber-Linn Memorial Park.

Applications are available at Albany Parks & Recreation Department at City Hall, 333 Broadalbin Street SW or online at www.nwartandair.org.

Deadline to apply is August 15.

Training will be held in the Council Chambers in City Hall, at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, August 19.

Activities for Fans of Galactic Travel at Albany Public Library Students going into kindergarten or school grades are invited to “Science...From a Galaxy Far, Far Away,” a hands-on workshop presented by Marian Scadden Enterprises, at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 14, at the Albany Main Library, 2450 14th Avenue SE.

Young fans of the Star Wars movies and books will enjoy participating in a variety of activities about planets, asteroids, hovercraft, holograms, and the galactic forces of magnetism.

The Library will provide a display of books available for checkout on related subjects for continuing the fun at home.

These programs are part of the Library’s Summer Reading Program events scheduled through August.

They are free of charge, and no registration is required.

Science Sampler Workshop at Albany’s Carnegie Library

Students going into kindergarten or school grades and their families are invited to Fizz, Bang, Wow! - Spangler Science Sampler presented by Marian Scadden Enterprises at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, August 12, at the Carnegie Library, 302 Ferry Street SW.

Students will learn why things bubble, fizz, react, and explode during this awe-inspiring, hands-on chemistry activity where they get to be a scientist.

The Library will provide a display of books available for checkout on related subjects for continuing the fun at home.

These programs are part of the Library’s Summer Reading Program events scheduled through August.

They are free of charge, and no registration is required.

Fill the Canoe School Supply Drive The Albany Public Library and Red Canoe Credit Union are partnering for the annual “Fill the Canoe School Supply Drive.”

The “Fill the Canoe” School Supply Drive began August 4 and concludes August 22. The Red Canoe is located in the lobby of the Main Library, 2450 14th Avenue SE.

Since 2007, the “Fill the Canoe” program has collected 47,500 pounds of school supplies.

Supplies needed most are, backpacks, calculators, binders, and pencil boxes.

Please stop by the Main Library to donate school supplies.
