(PORTLAND, Ore. ) - On Monday at approximately 10:30 p.m., Portland Police North Precinct officers responded to the report of a sexual assault that occurred in North Portland's Overlook Neighborhood. Officers met with the 54-year-old female victim at her home and she told police that she was walking her dogs near the grounds of the Kaiser Permanente offices at North Interstate Avenue and Overlook Street, when a suspect approached her, talked with her briefly, then pulled her into the bushes where she was sexually assaulted. The victim was able to walk home and call 9-1-1. She was treated and released at a Portland hospital. Several officers, including a canine unit, searched the area but did not locate the suspect. The suspect is described as a Hispanic male in his 20's, 5'5" tall, heavy set, wearing a black t-shirt and blue jeans. The Portland Police Bureau would like to remind community members that stranger-to-stranger sexual assaults fortunately are a rare occurrence. The Portland Police Bureau works with the Sexual Assault Resource Center of Oregon (SARC) and we want you to know that you need not be alone as a survivor of a sexual assault. SARC has a 24-hour support line at (503) 640-5311. Additionally, the Portland Police Bureau WomenStrength and GirlStrength programs provide free self-defense classes and personal safety workshops to people around the Portland area.
