(SALEM) - The Salem Peace Festival is a non-political community event, currently in its fifth exciting year of operation.

John Gordon, who contacted our newsroom on behalf of the event, says the mission is to provide an opportunity for individuals from various faith and cultural backgrounds to come together to promote peace in our community.

"We expect to draw more than 600 people to our one day, all-ages event, which takes place on August 18 from 10:00 a.m.-6:30 p.m.," Gordon said.

"In addition to representatives of various faith and cultural communities, we also involve various local service organizations who promote more peaceful ways of living together."

He says the Peace Festival also invites local merchants who support the idea of a more peaceful world to live in. The festival is an annual one day event that occurs on the third Saturday of each August.

The event features…

  • diverse live music
  • cultural performances and demonstrations
  • children's activities
  • panel discussions on peace related topics
  • shopping
  •  workshops
  • great food
Our musical guests include: Award wining Native American flutist, Jan Micheal Looking Wolf, Eugene based reggae-fusion band Sol Seed
and Salem native, 18 year old indie pop singer Audrianna Cole who just signed a major record deal with Universal Music.

Gordon explains that the Salem Peace Festival does not charge anyone for admission to the event.

"The festival is run and staffed entirely by a large team of dedicated volunteers. We are able to do this thanks to generous local businesses and individuals who sponsor our event."
