"Our sympathies go out to the families and their victims. This is a horrible tragedy, especially given the fact that it occurred in place of worship."

Oak Creek, Wisconsin Mayor Steve Scaffidi

(OAK CREEK, WI) - The heroic actions of the officers likely prevented a greater tragedy. Oak Creek is a diverse and welcoming community; we have 23 churches of different faiths in our City. The Sikh Community has been a valuable part of the City of Oak Creek.

Our sympathies go out to the families and their victims. This is a horrible tragedy, especially given the fact that it occurred in place of worship.

President Obama called me to express his condolences after he called Froedert to check on the condition of the Oak Creek Police Officer.

Thank you to all the Emergency Responder, Salvation Army, Red Cross, Federal, State and County personnel who assisted us.

Steve Scaffidi
Mayor
