(GRANTS PASS, Ore.) - For the seventh year, the City of Grants Pass will celebrate Art Along the Rogue Street Painting and Music Festival on Saturday and Sunday, October 3rd and 4th, 2009. The event is being moved to Riverside Park in Grants Pass - truly along the Rogue River. Also this year's the event will feature Oregon's largest street painting, 40 local and regional street painters, a Community Art Show, food and craft vendors, plus music all weekend. Admission is a suggested donation of $5 for which attendees receive a collectible Art Along the Rogue button and discounts to local restaurants. Art Along the Rogue 2009 will feature dozens of regional artists and students from area elementary through high school creating huge pastel chalk drawings in Riverside Park. Tracy Lee Stum of Ventura, California, internationally-known street painter will create and coordinate the largest street painting ever done in the state of Oregon. The approximately 16-foot by 28-foot pastel street painting will be an original 3D, or anamorphic, design by Ms. Stum. She will be assisted in the four-day-long project by three regional street painters; Janet Gogué from Grants Pass, Cathy Gallatin from Medford and Ann DiSalvo from Ashland. All three have been local featured artists at Art Along the Rogue. The local featured artist will be Jaime Bryn from Gold Hill, Oregon creating a 12-foot by 12-foot masterpiece in pastels. Ms. Bryn is an aspiring professional artist whose 2008 Art Along the Rogue street painting is featured on the 2009 t-shirt and poster. Art Along the Rogue will also host 40 other professional, amateur and student artists creating 8-foot by 8-foot masterpieces on the Riverside Park lower parking area. This year's street painting theme will be Oregon 150 in honor of the Oregon sesquicentennial. Artists are encouraged to create depictions of pioneer life in Oregon or to replicate an artist's work from 150 years ago. That is the colorful Impressionist period. If you are interested in becoming an Art Along the Rogue street painter, complete an artist application on the Art Along the Rogue website. Want to try street painting on a smaller scale? For five dollars, Art Along the Rogue will provide pastels and a two-foot square of street, you provide the inspiration. In past events, hundreds of children and adults have taken advantage of this opportunity to draw along-side the pros. New to Art Along the Rogue is the Community Art Show. Once a part of Take a Walk on the Rogue, the Community Art Show, also themed Oregon 150, will highlight as many as 90 panels painted by students and amateur artists on display in Riverside Park. As Emerson said, "Every artist was once an amateur." The 2009 musical showcase will feature some of the region's top musical groups all day Saturday and Sunday. The 2009 line-up includes: Jon Galfano, Shae Johnson and the Flat Five String Band, Siskiyou Summit, Oregon Little Big Band, The Wendi Stanek Trio, The Mixers, Monk and the Southern Oregon Jazz Orchestra.
