Aug-03-2015 01:11 ![]() ![]() When Just Any Ole Spot Won't Do...There's The Other SpotMindi Griffiths Special to Salem-News.comMarijuana use is legal in Oregon for 21+. But where? Here's a great option!
(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Now that recreational cannabis use is legal in Oregon many people are looking for a safe place to consume their weed. Often apartments have no-smoking clauses and it is not permissible to smoke pot in public. Everybody knows you can’t smoke in your car or at work. So where can the law abiding cannabis consumer enjoy a joint without risking getting sent to the joint? For the people of the legal green state, they have a favorite place to go, The Other Spot (TOS), a private cannabis club located in southeast Portland.
The door fee is just 10 dollars and those who possess an OMMP card are given a 50% discount. TOS is not a dispensary, but rather a place to gather for community support, education, and good ole fashioned fun. While there, patrons enjoy the pool table, shuffle board, TV room, dab bar and all the comfort items and amenities needed to enjoy cannabis, including munchies! One can even support local artists whose items are showcased throughout the club. Other activities include, Stoneroke Wednesdays, Free Weed Give-A-Ways, Veteran Discount days, community BBQ’s and much more! A crowd favorite is the monthly 1st Thursday Boomer and Friends Comedy Show. You may already know Boomer as a beloved 101 KUFO radio personality and a regular at Harvey's Comedy Club. He can also be found on Netflix! Boomer extends his personal invite to join him for some laughs. Although smoking weed is great, the mission of The Other Spot is more than providing a place to smoke pot. Nickie D. Dank, one of the owners of TOS, described the purpose of the club as, “a place where all people are welcome-we are bridging gaps among neighboring communities and the ‘green’ community. We always try to show great STONERISM.” Nickie and the crew feel it is important to show the reality of who cannabis consumers really are, everyday people. They want to knock down the stereotypes and misconceptions people have about “stoners” and prove that a community of ‘pot’ heads can be good and productive neighbors. The Other Spot is an ideal place for the local activists and others who want to learn how they can help further the cannabis legalization movement. Cornucopias of brochures and magazines from various cannabis organizations from around the country are available. Also, make sure to check out their dedication to Eddy Lepp, cannabis POW, and find out how you can reach out to a victim of the drug war serving time in federal prison. No matter what your interest is in the legalization movement, Nickie and The Other Spot family can point you in the direction you want to go. Recently, TOS celebrated an expansion that doubled the size of their location. With the passage of recreational cannabis legislation, the timing is perfect, allowing them the space they need to be open to the general public. Nickie has been an activist fighting for patient rights to medicate for many years. Having the ability to provide a safe place for all adults who want to consume the life saving miracle plant is a dream she barely allowed herself to believe could happen. Currently, TOS is working hard to aid in the restoration of Portland's Annual Hempstalk celebration and is gearing up for a Outdoor Community Chili Cook Off on August 30th. With the help of volunteers, they have turned a run-down corner building into something the whole community can be proud of both inside and out. Make sure to check out future meetings of cannabis friendly organizations such as Parents For Pot and Ganja Gals. The next scheduled Parents For Pot meeting is August 8th at 2:00 PM. They are also available for holidays, birthdays, memorials, and everything in between, lending themselves to others in ways that truly builds relationships and binds people together. For more information about event details at TOS, please go to www.facebook.com/TheOtherSpot or call 503-775-3463. _________________________________________

The proprietress--Nickie Dank has been an activist and a member of the activist community since back when that could land you in some deep doo doo. She's paid the dues, so put you money where your hearts are and have a great time doing it at--The Other Spot.
