(SALEM, Ore. ) - Salem Police and the Marion County Sheriff's Office have both confirmed to Salem-News.com Sunday night that 40-year-old Jessica Smith of Goldendale, Washington, who is wanted in connection with the death of a toddler and her teen sister found critically wounded in a Cannon Beach hotel, was NOT arrested in Salem or Marion County as many people on social media have been reporting. Salem Police Lt. Steve Birr says their office has been getting lots of calls about the situation, and that the information that Salem Police arrested Smith are not true. Marion County Sheriff's spokesman Sergeant Chris Baldridge also confirmed that currently there is nobody with her identity being held at the Marion County Jail, or that was arrested in Marion County, in connection with the Clatsop County case. Isabella was found dead and Alana was found critically wounded at the Surfsand Resort in Cannon Beach on Friday. Housekeepers found them around 9:45 a.m., Clatsop County officials said in a release, and no adults were in the room. Police in Cannon Beach have confirmed that they have a “suspect in custody” in connection with the case, and will be releasing that information later tonight. Salem-News.com will have updates as they come in.
