(MILL CITY, Ore. ) - Rescue crews spent two hours Saturday afternoon saving three hikers in the Opal Creek Wilderness, one of which sustained serious injuries and had to be airlifted out of the area, and was taken Legacy Emanuel Hospital in Portland. Marion County Sheriff's Office spokesman Sergeant Chris Baldridge says around 3:00 p.m., deputies were flagged down and rushed to the scene where a hiker who had fallen thirty feet after her rope broke. 28-year-old Sinn Escobar, her boyfriend 32-year-old Jacob Ross, and their dog Gracie, were making their way down to a pool of water on a steep decline. The trio were using a rope left by previous hikers and that rope gave way causing Escobar to fall an estimated thirty feet. Escobar seriously injured her leg and head in the fall. After deputies arrived they accessed the situation and knew they would need additional resources. That is when they called the Army Air National Guard and the Salem Fire Department Technical Rescue Team. Together all of the law enforcement, military and fire agencies worked together to rescue Escobar, Ross and Gracie. Escobar was air lifted from her fall location and transported to Legacy Emanuel Hospital. The Salem Fire Department's Technical Rescue Team then assisted Ross and Gracie the dog up the steep hillside.
