Palestinian Baby Burns to Death in Arson Attack by Suspected Israeli Settlers

The child was sleeping when the firebomb landed on his bed.

(SALEM, Ore.) - A gang of suspected Israeli regime settlers have burnt to death an 18-month-old Palestinian baby boy while three of his family members were injured at dawn Friday after their house was deliberately set on fire in Duma, a town south of Nablus.

The one-and-a-half year old toddler, Ali Saad Dawabsha, died after sustaining serious burns when a firebomb was thrown through the window near his bed while he slept. It was 3 a.m., all the family was asleep and defenseless.

His mother and father, Riham and Saad, and their 4-year old son Ahmad, also sustained moderate injuries and were evacuated to a nearby hospital, where they are reportedly in critical condition.

The gang of extremist Jewish settlers from nearby settlements also threw firebombs at a second home belonging to Maamoon Dawabsha, a neighbor located at the entrance to the town.

Racist graffiti and anti-Arab slogans were sprayed across both homes reading "revenge" and "long live the Messiah" in Hebrew.

Shortly after the arson attack, the Palestinian Authority held the Israeli regime fully responsible for "the heinous crime."

This crime would not have happened if the Israeli regime didn’t insist on settlement expansion and settlers’ protection, spokesman for the PA Nabil Abu Roudeina said.

He also condemned that the international community's continued silence paved the way for more Israeli settler attacks.

He vowed to prosecute all those responsible for and involved in the crime before the international criminal court.

More than half a million Israelis live in over 120 illegal settlements built since Israel’s occupation of the Palestinian territories of the West Bank and East al-Quds in 1967.

The UN and most countries regard the Israeli settlements as illegal because the territories were captured by Israel in a war in 1967 and are hence subject to the Geneva Conventions, which forbid construction on occupied lands.

The killing of the Palestinian baby by Israeli settlers comes one day after UN Chief Ban Ki-moon condemned the announcement that the Israeli regime has approved construction of some 300 housing units in the West Bank settlement of Beit El, as well as the planning and construction of nearly 500 housing units in a number of settlements in East Jerusalem.

The statement by Ban's spokesman in New York also added: "He reiterates that settlements are illegal under international law, an impediment to peace."
