Annie May Duncan & Wanda Duncan |
(SACRAMENTO, CA) - One of our actively involved Salem-News.com promoters on Facebook, Twitter and other social media, Wanda Duncan, suffered a tragedy this week when her mother, Annie May Duncan, died from a heart attack that was sudden and unexpected.
What makes this story particularly difficult, is the fact that Wanda's father is battling cancer and fighting for his life.
Wanda Duncan is part of the Salem-News.com family. We have grown from a three person staff, in May 2004, to a team of 114 writers and contributors in 24 countries. That does not account for those who exist in our ancillary ranks and without them, our visitor counts would be much lower. Their role is invaluable, sharing Salem-News.com content all over the Internet and driving our popularity and growth.
As these friends of Salem-News perform these tasks, they receive little to no credit for their efforts, but they are in our thoughts and we do not overlook their importance or value. Wanda is most definitively, one of those people. While these volunteers understand and appreciate what we have been doing for the last several years, they seek no credit, but they deserve plenty. We love Wanda, our hearts are heavy but our love is strong.
Agron Belica released this thoughtful "Medicine for the Heart' for Wanda that includes thoughts and well wishes from Wanda's friends including Jo Mccoll from New Zealand, Jullian Faccini from Australia, Lisa Spaulding, Agron Belica and I... all in the US. The song was produced by Harvey Feneller. Other Salem-News.com supporters who, lot like Wanda, are great help in promoting our news, include Jo Mccoll and Lisa Spaulding, who created a new Salem-News Facebook page; both of whom contributed to this video. Others who really help a lot include Gail Baker and Louis Narcisi, who said, "Wanda, you mean a lot to all of us. Thank you for being you. We love ya ... Anytime you need to talk or a friend I am here."
They help Salem-News.com writers who promote us online like Anna O'Leary, Siraj Davis, Gilad Atzmon, Ken O'Keefe, Bonnie King and so many more.
Bonnie King said, "Wanda's mom Annie must have been a really wonderful and inspirational woman to have brought somebody into the world like Wanda, who brings so much joy and hope to others."
I was very moved that this took place, it is the spirit of who and what we are and I like to think that any time a death happens, we can't give enough support. Our writer from 2004, Henry Clay Ruark, passed at the age of 94 in April 2012. It was April 2011 when Vittorio Arrigoni was murdered in Gaza. You can read tributes to both of them on our staff page.
Our Publisher Bonnie King's father, Alan J. Ehry, was killed in a recent, tragic accident. My parents, Charles and Nellie King, died on the same day in the summer of 2007. Agron Belica's dad, Selamin Belica, was recently diagnosed with a serious illness and is undergoing a difficult treatment procedure. I mention all of this just to say that those people are all important, everything matters, and while we try to watch out for the world at large, we at Salem-News.com have an arms around those friends who supports us 365 days a year, and who, every once in a while, really need our love and support. Life is precious.

With almost 25 years of experience on the west coast and worldwide as a television news producer, photojournalist, reporter and assignment editor, Tim King is Salem-News.com's Executive News Editor. His background includes covering the war in Afghanistan in 2006 and 2007, and reporting from the Iraq war in 2008. Tim is a former U.S. Marine who follows stories of Marines and Marine Veterans; he's covered British Royal Marines and in Iraq, Tim embedded with the same unit he served with in the 1980's.
Tim holds awards for reporting, photography, writing and editing from traditional mainstream news agencies like The Associated Press and Electronic Media Association; he also holds awards from the National Coalition of Motorcyclists, the Oregon Confederation of Motorcycle Clubs; and was presented with a 'Good Neighbor Award' for his reporting, by the The Red Cross.
Tim's years as a Human Rights reporter have taken on many dimensions; he has rallied for a long list of cultures and populations and continues to every day, with a strong and direct concentration on the 2009 Genocide of Tamil Hindus and Christians in Sri Lanka. As a result of his long list of reports exposing war crimes against Tamil people, Tim was invited to be the keynote speaker at the FeTNA (Federation of Tamil Sangams of North America) Conference in Baltimore, in July 2012. This is the largest annual gathering of North American Tamils; Tim addressed more than 3000 people and was presented with a traditional Sri Lanka ‘blessed garland’ and a shawl as per the tradition and custom of Tamil Nadu
In a personal capacity, Tim has written 2,026 articles as of March 2012 for Salem-News.com since the new format designed by Matt Lintz was launched in December, 2005. Serving readers with news from all over the globe, Tim's life is literally encircled by the endless news flow published by Salem-News.com, where more than 100 writers contribute stories from 23+ countries and regions.
Tim specializes in writing about political and military developments worldwide; and maintains that the label 'terrorist' is ill placed in many cases; specifically with the LTTE Tamil Tigers in Sri Lanka, where it was used as an excuse to slaughter people by the tens of thousands; and in Gaza, where a trapped population lives at the mercy of Israel's destructive military war crime grinder. At the center of all of this, Tim pays extremely close attention to the safety and welfare of journalists worldwide.
