Children Taken from Three Prominent Idaho Marijuana Activists

Compassionate Idaho’s Lindsey Rinehart – multiple sclerosis patient, chief petitioner for Idaho’s medical marijuana initiative, and now, mother fighting for the return of her children.

(PORTLAND, OR) - Four young boys, ages 11, 10, 6, and 5, have been taken by the State of Idaho Child Protective Services from their families.  Three prominent marijuana activists are now fighting for their children and their freedom.  If you can help financially support these brave activists, please visit http://rad-r.us/IdahoFund to donate.

Lindsey Rinehart is the chief petitioner for Idaho’s medical marijuana initiative.  She is a multiple sclerosis patient who’s experienced a remarkable recovery by using cannabis to treat her symptoms.  She is the director of the medical marijuana activist group Compassionate Idaho.  In her role she has become one of the state’s most high-profile marijuana supporters, along with her husband Josh Rinehart, who is the director of Idaho NORML, the local chapter of the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws.  Her friend. Sarah Caldwell, is the financial director for Moms for Marijuana International, another activist group which was formed by Idaho medical marijuana patient activist Serra Frank.

These three young people are far braver than me.  I was born and raised in Idaho and know exactly the harsh judgement and intense surveillance they face for the slightest of “radical” politics.  I left the state in 2003 for Oregon, a safe place for my ex-wife’s medical marijuana use and my own marijuana reform activism.  So when I heard my birth state was ripping the children away from these activists, I set up the donation shortlink http://rad-r.us/IdahoFund for their legal defense fund.

Sarah’s two children were staying with Lindsey’s two children under the care of a babysitter while Sarah, Lindsey, and Josh vacationed for the weekend in the mountains.  Unbeknownst to them, in prior days one of the school friends of one of Lindsey’s boys had gotten in trouble.  Under interrogation this boy led police to believe they needed to conduct a “well child visit” at Lindsey’s home.  Police arrive to meet the babysitter and intimidate their way into the home.  After claiming to find some of Lindsey’s cannabis medicine, police bring in child protective services to take Lindsey’s and Sarah’s four boys and place them in foster homes.

I know all three of these activists personally.  They are the true grassroots volunteers who put their lives and liberty on the line to fight for freedom in a state that just recently voted through the legislature to oppose all forms of marijuana use - even medical!  According to Rep. Luke Malek, R-Coeur d’Alene, when Lindsey is lobbying to not be thrown in a cage and have her children stolen from her and placed with strangers, it’s a “farcical predatory scheme”.
