Apr-24-2007 04:36TweetFollow @OregonNews Inmate Bolts from Oregon Courtroom; Quickly Captured by PoliceSalem-News.comDeputy Morrisey-O'Donnell was right on Trent's heels in foot pursuit.
(PORTLAND) - While being ordered into custody at the Justice Center Courthouse on Monday, Wayne Michael Trent initially appeared cooperative as MCSO Corrections Deputy Nicole Morrisey-O'Donnell approached him with handcuffs out. Dep. Morrisey-O'Donnell observed Trent place his hands behind his back reading his body language as cooperative. Suddenly, without warning, Trent bolted toward the court room door allegedly attempting to escape. Dep. Morrisey-O'Donnell was right on Trent's heels in foot pursuit. While chasing him she was able to draw her TASER, aim and deploy. The TASER prongs made contact with Trent effectively immobilizing him. Trent verbally indicated he was giving up at this point and called for his mother. With the help of a plain clothes officer Dep. Morrissey-O'Donnell was able to place Trent in handcuffs and control him without further incident. MCSO Corrections Deputies escorted Trent back into the court room to finish the process with the judge. Trent, who was being ordered into custody on charges of Identity Theft (Class C Felony), Possession of False Police ID (Class A Misd), and Criminal Impersonation (Class A Misd) had his bail raised from $250,000 to $500,000. The charges are related to a Portland Police investigation. The capture by Dep. Morrisey-O'Donnell serves as an example of the effectiveness of less lethal force in preventing serious injury to the deputy or the suspect. Without the availability of the TASER Dep. Morrisey-O'Donnell and the other officer would have been forced to tackle Trent on the stairs. Trent is being held at the Multnomah County Detention Center. i don't think this guy is as bad as pointed out to be...i'm sure there are people who know him, and actually know the real him.

Wayne happens to be a friend of mine and the news media made the whole story out to be something its not. They will do anything for a buck. Wayne is a great guy who happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time and was simply a victim of circumstance. I love him to death and it saddens me to think the media can legally get away with running someones name thru the mud like they do. I hope everything works out for you Wayne.

Mike, Don't you see that ultimately there are as many criminal citizens as people in law inforcement. That is my point. Everyone focuses on what the press releases about civilians. They are reluctant to show the reality of the criminality in law enforcement which from my experience I would say is just about equal...except the law is getting away with so much more and people should be watching them as much as anyone.

Ex-Fla. Prison Official Sentenced JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - A former regional director of Florida's prison system was sentenced Wednesday to nearly three years in prison for his role in accepting kickbacks from a contractor. Allen Clark, 41, could have received 10 years, but prosecutors argued for a lenient sentence. Acting U.S. Attorney Jim Klindt said Clark helped agents build a case against his friend and mentor, former Department of Corrections Secretary James Crosby. Crosby was sentenced Tuesday to eight years in federal prison. Clark and Crosby, 54, pleaded guilty in July to a single charge of accepting kickbacks from American Institutional Services, a company that sold snacks and drinks to prison visitors on weekends. "I am sorry. I could go into it, but that's the bottom line," Clark said in a brief address to the judge. Crosby and Clark have been ordered to pay back $130,000, the total amount received illegally

No Mike, it is predicated on a total view rather than a partial view and anarchy is the last thing I want. The system is already anarchy, chaotic, very unfair and corrupt. The status quo does not work. That is why we have more people in jail than any country. I am pushing for a little more compassion. Did you ever work off the books and not pay taxes?..crime. Did you ever in your lifetime while driving have some alcohol or even prescription drugs in your system?...crime. Ever jump a read light or speed? Sadly a State Trooper was killed in a town upstate New York that I know very well. No excuse; condolence to the family. The guy that did it was only 23. I know that rural mountain area very well. It is really gone downhill despite its natural beauty. No real jobs, no meaningful services of anykind. If people go to social services and say they need help, they should get it. Of course a young kid from a "who knows what" background feels pushed against the wall, he will push back and a tragedy will happen. Yes, there are sociopaths with no conscience. I do not see them as evil and not human. I see them as human with a cancer of the spirit. We need jails. They are overcrowded and run by misfits in a nitwit way. But corrections should be just that. They have become dumping grounds for the mentally ill, the unemployable, sociopaths, people with drug and alcohol problems and people that may not have had a proper start in life. I knew someone who at 18 tried to outrun a cop in a speed trap 35 years ago. Now that he looks back, he understands his perceptions at the time and his impulsive reaction. It is easy to judge. We have chaos overseas. This domestic stuff can be petty compared to what goes on globally. The very rich, connected and powerful do get off. Sometimes the connected and powerful are in law enforcement or the military. You should also read about prison rape. You may vomit. No place is more lawless than a prison. No place is more abusive, cruel and corrupt. Do you think that these institutions as structured help? Try not to be so Holy when looking at others.
Mike Hammer April 25, 2007 1:59 pm (Pacific time)
Bill Jenkins, ignore some of these people, for it does not matter to them if you provide facts or just expect common sense responses or analyses...they live in another world...one whose structure is predicated on anarchy, and I'm quite sure 'bout that.

Bill, It really is not a matter of bleeding-hearts. It is a matter of putting things in perspective. Strong arms with a big heart can do alot. This site is not a shrine. Just because you disagree with a point of view does not mean that people have "no right." This is one of the best places to discuss the criminal justice system or anything else. People learn from each other sometimes. Cop and Robbers, Cowboys and Indians, Black and White. It is all not so simple. That is part of the psyche of many adult children. That is why there is so much suffering. It has more to do with dominance, submission, power, pain, mental illness, not being strong enough to face an ever increasingly difficult economic, social and political enviroment. Why does the criminal justice system get a halo when so many judges and cops are crooked? Who are the real criminals; maybe more people than you would realize? Behind most "criminals" you will have a story that explains things. Most judges are just lawyers that wanted a government job. Many of them were not good lawyers. The same for all people that go into criminal justice. They are needed but something greater than this primitive system is needed. It seems obvious that the vested interests in the status quo do not want to make things more human. They are just as much of a problem. Haven't you seen somewhere what is allowed to go on in the system. A system that in many cases is filled with myopic young, arrogant or just plain cruel people.

B.S. they tasered him and he fell down the stairs then they refused him medical aid.
Bill Jenkins April 25, 2007 8:52 am (Pacific time)
The bleeding-heart excuse making on this article is sickening.
While there are serious corporate crimes, it is not the issue mentioned in the article.
Also, there are all kinds of problems with the criminal "justice" system. Yet this isn't really the place to debate this as well.
The guy is a con-artist who robbed someone's identity and defrauded businesses.
If you had your identity stolen, I'm sure you wouldn't be so sympathetic to this likely CRIMINAL.
I'd mention that this is what happens when you run from the cops when you are in a court. It really is no big deal. He attempted to flee, was caught, and now will face more charges. Brilliant move, eh?
You bleeding-heart types can take a flying leap. Blaming corporate America for the greed of this shady individual is pathetic at best.
RICCO April 25, 2007 12:47 am (Pacific time)
If people kept up with the real meaningful crimes that occur in places like the corporate boardroom and no one gets-The Chair-(double entendre). You would want to stop this guy but would see the absurdity of resources focused on crimes that dollar wise are peanuts compared to the Big Boys and Girls. You would also see that the little guy really gets it and the big ones get a slap on the wrist. I got news baby, some of the cops I know do a good job of impersonating police officers and I wonder how they ever got through the academy. This guy was created and I agree is wrong but put it in perspective. He is also disturbed for some reason or another. And guess what, he may not be able to really take care of himself. Glad he was caught and stopped but this is not catching King Kong. Do us all a favor and catch that Turkish billionaire (Uzan) that has been avoiding international arrest for years. The guy in the picture is a two bit huckster and quite creative I might add. Maybe he will have the time to realize his creative side, unfortunately he has to be detained but I doubt that once he gets the criminal label, society likes to say he is not human. Saying he is not human is a real crime. He does though need some sort of detention. I could go into Martha Stewart and how she really got the shaft compared to powerful and connected men. She was wealthy but not well connected. She should have called Vinney to bump people off; just like powerful, wealthy, connected men do.
Albert Marnell April 24, 2007 5:05 pm (Pacific time)
What this guy did is non-violent and also against the law. With the confluence of economic and political forces now destabilizing everything from regions of the globe to your guy next door, why would this surprise anyone. The riot today in the Indiana prison should not surprise people. That jail is managed by GEO. It is now privatized and you have human slavery back. When you call a state tourist information line or even make reservations with TWA, you may be talking to a prisoner who under different circumstances and with the proper social and economic support and opportunities, might be elsewhere. The problem is that most people have no idea what is going on behind not so closed doors and do not care. They will however care more as this decline in the standard of living and opportunity for the majority of people becomes less and less. When frustrated with no end in sight, don't kid yourself about what you might do. This young man is not the point. We are already in disaster but going lower. The general population is suffering more and more as the band plays on. It is increasingly hard for adults to be self-sustaining in any dignified way and sometimes it is just impossible. Nothing good is coming anytime soon in any measured way. Do what you can to influence your representatives....Congress to reverse the rapid decline and human suffering that is just another day for those that benefit from it.
