(Salem, Oregon) - Volunteers with the American Red Cross responded to a single family house fire Saturday morning, April 23rd, in the 1800 block of 31st avenue NE, in Salem. The house sustained fire and smoke damage and no injuries were reported. A pet cat perished in the fire. The Red Cross assisted the three adults with lodging, food, clothing and emotional support. How to Help: In Oregon, the American Red Cross shelters, feeds and provides emotional support to victims of disaster every 20 hours; supplies more than 90 percent of Oregon's blood; teaches thousands of Oregonians lifesaving skills; provides international humanitarian aid; and supports military members and their families. The Red Cross is a charitable organization - not a government agency - and depends on volunteers and the generosity of the American public to perform its mission.
