(Salem, Oregon) - Concerned with the safety of animals in the wake of a fire, Marion County Fire District resident Barbara Hosier got involved on a personal level by purchasing three pet oxygen masks and donating them to Marion County Fire District No.1. Barbara Hosier's interest in the oxygen masks started after reading an article in the local newspaper about other fire departments that have had masks donated to help family pets after a fire. A lifetime animal lover, Barbara wanted this same care for her animals and all animals living in Marion County Fire District and with cooperation from her veterinarian, Barbara was directed to the appropriate type of mask, and to the vendor who could provide them. After a month of phone calls, visits to the veterinarian, and communications with the fire district, the masks were delivered today to Marion County Fire District where Barbara met with Chief J. Kevin Henson who received the oxygen masks with much gratitude. "This is an example of the community getting involved and making a difference in the emergency services provided by their local agencies. Barbara is going to be a hero to someone's pet and we're ecstatic to be a part of that", said Chief Henson. Barbara Hosier was able to purchase these pet oxygen masks for $50 each. Persons interested in making a donation toward the purchase of additional masks can do so by contacting the Marion County Fire District at 503-588-6526.
