(TEMPE, Ariz.) - The Oregon State women’s golf team improved its second round by five strokes on Monday at the 2011 Pac-10 Championships and sits in ninth place heading into Tuesday’s final round. The Beavers shot a 16-over 304 on Monday at the par-72, 6,230-yard ASU Karsten Golf Course after posting a 21-over 309 on Sunday. The three-day, 54-hole tournament, which is being hosted by Arizona State University, concludes Tuesday with tee times beginning at 8 a.m. “Today was better, but not our best by far,” Oregon State head coach Risë Alexander said. “The score was better but if the course conditions remain the same, I would anticipate much lower scores tomorrow. We just need one or two of them to really go low tomorrow.” Freshman Seshia Telles had another solid round on Monday with a 1-over 73, the best score by an Oregon State golfer after the first two rounds, and is tied for 20th with a 5-over 76-73--149. Sophomore Chelsey Lind knocked five strokes off her second round with a 3-over 75 and is tied for 38th with an 11-over 80-75--155. Freshman Lauren Sewell remained consistent with a 4-over 76 on Monday and is tied for 26th overall with a 7-over 75-76--151, while junior Whitney French is tied for 44th with a 14-over 78-80--158. “Both Seshia and Lauren are playing well,” Alexander added. “Chelsey really played a good round today and responded to the situation our team was in. Whitney hit 10 greens but wasn’t able to utilize her short game.” USC has a seven stroke lead heading into the final round over Stanford and Arizona, while Tiffany Lua of UCLA and Sophia Popov of USC are tied for the individual lead at 4-under 140.
