(SILVERTON) - Two Oregon State Police Fish & Wildlife Division troopers found and prevented a Marion County resident reportedly attempting suicide Saturday afternoon east of Silverton. The man reportedly is in critical condition but itis reported that he will survive. One of the troopers, Adam Turnbo, helped save three individuals two weekends ago after their canoe overturned in the Willamette River. Saturday at approximately 2:30 PM, OSP Trooper Adam Turnbo and Trooper Dennis Conrad, a retired trooper working under contract with the Department of Forestry, were contacted by two subjects at the Abiqua Mainline gate off Highway 213 east of Silverton. They said that they had received a call from a friend who said he was going to commit suicide in the area. About 30 minutes later, the troopers found the vehicle matching a description in the woods with a hose leading from the exhaust system into the passenger compartment. Inside, they found the 37-year old male who had taken a large amount of medication and attempted to fill the passenger compartment with carbon monoxide from the vehicle's exhaust. Medical personnel were called to the scene. The man was transported to a nearby area where a LifeFlight helicopter landed. LifeFlight transported the man to Oregon Health Sciences University in poor condition. As of Monday, April 17th, the man's condition has improved by he remains listed in critical condition. The man's name is not being released. Trooper Turnbo is assigned to the Fish & Wildlife Division at the Salem Area Command Office. Itis refreshing to hear State Police save a human life. Maybe they have more respect for life because they deal with fish and wildlife. Thank you TROOPERS! You guys get a big HUUUGGGG!
