(SALEM) - Oregon Governor Ted Kulongoski has ordered all flags at public institutions be flown at half-staff today, Tuesday, April 17th, through sundown on Sunday, April 22nd, in memory of the lives lost at Virginia Tech yesterday. “Yesterday’s events at Virginia Tech were not just a tragedy for Virginia, but for our entire nation,” said Governor Kulongoski. “On behalf of Oregonians throughout the state, our thoughts and prayers are with the families, students and community of Virginia Tech as we mourn all those affected by this tragedy.” See the other Salem-News.com reports on the Virginia Tech school shooting:

There is no evil, there are variations of human behavior and anyone with a scientific mind does not want to simplify things as a child does and break things down to good and bad, black and white, Republican or Democrat, right and wrong. All things need to be studied, sociologically, psychologically, scientifically, financially, politically, etc. And yes, I have aborted myself from mainstream thinking. Beyond every cliche is something deeper and deeper and deeper. That is how to make a less miserable world, not simplistic thinking and shoot-from-the-hip gut reactions.

Cho was evil, he is why we need to begin a program of eugenics before the Malthusian Doctrine becomes omnipresent. Marnell, were you aborted?

With all respect to Governor Kulongoski, I hope that he also throws a spotlight on the need to reach out and help people like Cho. Cho stopped talking at a much younger age and you know the rest. People become a certain way for a reason and need help, monitoring (out of concern, not fear or hatred). Lowering a flag is an appropriate gesture but then what? Should we go on with life as usual? If a person is not nurtured one way or another, he may turn in on himself, others or both.
[Return to Top]How many times do we have to read about these things before a real change is put in place to address a real problem? I am not talking about more security guards or police, rather more mental heatlh professionals and a more aware society. I have always known foreign born people or any group that is accepted on the surface may at the same time be actually emotionally ostracized and ignored. We all need real acceptance and meaningful human contact and help for who and what we are as is, not only if we fit into some ideal mold of the person worth helping.
