(DALLAS, Ore.) - Deputies in Polk County are coming together to raise money for a little girl who is undergoing treatment for Leukemia. Several employees from numerous law enforcement agencies, fire departments, and the Salem dispatch center will shave their heads in support of Madisyn who is losing her hair because of treatment. The daughter of Polk County Sheriff's Office's Detective Tyrone Jenkins, 3-year old Madisyn, is not fighting alone. Lieutenant Jeff Van Laanen says it is a continuing effort to support their family, assist with financial needs, and help Doernbecher's Children's Hospital they have created a special fundraising event that they hope will help offset some of the major costs associated with her treatment. Madisyn Jenkins was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) January 27th of this year. Since then, she has been undergoing treatment for Leukemia at Doernbecher's. Van Laanen says their agency commander may even get involved, "Rumor has it that Sheriff Bob Wolfe is going to shave his head if he can find enough sponsors to support him for Madisyn". That he says, is where his pledge money is going. "Everyone can help by sponsoring an individual by donating money towards the shaving of that individual's hair. Or, by volunteering to have your head shaved for the cause. Another way people can help is by donating a sum directly to her cancer fund." Donation / sponsorship forms are available at the Sheriff's Office in Dallas, or you can email Salem-News.com at newsroom@salem-news.com. If you would like to participate or assist in the event with fund-raising please contact Lieutenant Jeff Van Laanen, Polk County Sheriff's Office 503-623-9251 or Deputy Kelly Fredinburg with the Marion County Sheriff's Office at (503) 606-0308. For more information about Madisyn and her treatment visit: caringbridge.org/visit/madisynjenkins The shaving event is scheduled for Thursday May 17th 2007 @ 11:00 AM - 1:30 PM and also at 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM on the Polk County Courthouse steps.
