(EUGENE, Ore.) - Oregon State Police and Eugene Police, are asking for the public's help to find a missing Eugene-area man whose pickup was found abandoned at a southern Oregon coast public wayside on Highway 101 about nine miles south of Gold Beach. 49-year old Mark J. Rees of Eugene, was reported missing by his ex-wife April 11, 2010 to Eugene Police Department after she learned Rees failed to pay rent to his landlord. Rees' vehicle, a dark blue 1998 Toyota Tacoma extra cab pickup, was spotted three days earlier by a Curry County deputy at a Highway 101 public wayside near milepost 336 in the Pistol River area. People windsurfing in the area told police the pickup had been there for a couple days. Eugene police were contacted and made a welfare check at the registered owner's (Rees) address, reporting back that it was secured and no one was around. On April 10, OSP tagged the pickup as a possible abandoned vehicle. After it was towed two days later by a local tow company, the pickup's license plate was checked again by the OSP Southern Command Center dispatch. That check indicated it was associated with the Eugene Police Department's missing person investigation. OSP and Eugene police are working together to find REES who lived alone and was unemployed. Rees, who is described as a "very private man", is a white male, 5'10", 200 lbs., with blue eyes and brown hair. Anyone with information to help locate REES is asked to contact Eugene Police Detective Dan Braziel at (541) 682-5836.
