(OAK RIDGE, Tenn.) - April... National Child Abuse Prevention Month! This is a request for YOU to join Susan Suafoa-Dinino, President/Founder of SpeakingOut against Child Sexual Abuse, Inc. (aka SpeakingOut) in the fight against Child Sexual Abuse in America.
SpeakingOut is a non-profit organization whose primary purpose is Child Sexual Abuse Awareness and Prevention.
In addition, they touch on healing for adult survivors. It is their Vision to raise awareness all across America.
Child Sexual Abuse is a rampant & horrific crime committed against innocent children of all ages, and is the ultimate violation & betrayal of any child (child meaning birth to at least 17 years of age).
No child should ever be subjected to Rape, Incest, Molestation or Exploitation. Yet, statistics show that in America, it is estimated that...
- 1 out of 5 Boys will be sexually abused by their 18th birthday.
- 1 out of 3 Girls will be sexually abused by their 18th birthday.
- 95% of Children who are sexually abused know the person abusing them and in many cases, loves & trusts that person.
THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE. Not only are these our children and the most innocent of all victims, they are also the future leaders of this country. We must stop avoiding this topic because it makes people uncomfortable. If we, as Adults, cannot stand to talk about or think about this crime & what is being done to children, THEN WHAT ARE THE CHILDREN SUPPOSED TO DO?
THIS IS A CALL TO ACTION for ALL Adults; including the Leaders of this Country! Susan has created an Online Petition entitled SpeakingOut against Child Sexual Abuse and is asking everyone to Sign the Petition. It is SpeakingOut's goal during the Month of April... National Child Abuse Prevention Month to be a strong, united voice for children. Children deserve no less. It's past due time to put this crime against children on the top of the list of issues to be addressed immediately and aggressively; right up there with the importance of a child's education, healthcare, etc... I'm going to play devil's advocate here, so bear with me. I've spent much of my life studying how the human mind works. It's my opinion that sex with minors is more a part of natural human behavior than not. It occurs all through the rest of the animal kingdom and we ARE animals. Despite all the laws, religious and otherwise, we've never been able to deal with this effectively. The age of consent was once as low as 10 in Europe. US Christianity began to change all that in the late 1970's. They did the same thing in Japan to the "lolita" culture there. The result of this is it's all been driven underground where it can't be monitored as it was before. And organized crime now pimps these kids like never before.(Move over, Disney) This is probably one of the biggest stigmas in our entire country. Nobody wants to talk about it and when they do, there's a lot of hysterical arm flapping going on. We throw the adult in prison and call the child a victim to the point where many begin to manifest the psychological sypmtoms of a victim. Even when in actuality, it might have been a gentle and loving experience for them. They don't understand what all the hoopla is about and the conflict just tears them apart. Now I'm not apologizing for those who truly abuse children through violent means, but it's time we looked at the rest in a more realistic manner.Because right now, our "cure" is about as bad as the condition. x
