The 19th Commemorations of Rwanda Genocide Against Tutsi

As we commemorate the 19th Anniversary of the Rwanda Genocide against Tutsi, Rwanda’s neighbours in Eastern DRC are going through the same things...

(LONDON) - 7th April 2013 marks 19 years since the infamous Rwanda genocide of Tutsi visited upon our country. The people of Rwanda have been through this too many times, the victims of the Tutsi genocide had their entire lives ahead of them. Their liveswere cut short by Habyarimana’s soldiers and Interahamwe militias.

On 7th April 2013 the Rwanda People’s Party, joined other Rwandans and friends of Rwanda both at home and all over the world to mark the 19th Commemoration Day of the Rwanda Genocide against Tutsi. We joined in prayers, deep sorrow and painful memories for our beloved ones, family members, neighbours and friends whose lives were cutshort not because of what they did but just because of who they were.

For us, the relatives and friends of the victims of the Rwanda Tutsi genocide, 19 years has already elapsed since the horrible 100 days in 1994 but the memories still live vividly in our minds as if it were just yesterday. This tragic eventmust never be forgotten.

My party believes with conviction that the assumption that genocide will never ever again take place in Rwanda or elsewhere in the Great Lakes Region is completely false. This is because the world has failed to tackle the root causes of the 1994 genocide in Rwanda and also failed to prevent new genocides from taking place in other neighboring countries.

As we commemorate the 19th Anniversary of the Rwanda Genocide against Tutsi, Rwanda’s neighbours in the Kivu Provinces in the Eastern DRC are going through the same things experienced by their neighbors in Rwanda in 1994

There is a well-documented genocide presently taking place in the Kivu provinces of the DRC where the Congolese Kinyarwanda speaking people are being systematically exterminated by the FARDC (DRC national army), notoriously famous for their rape, torture and summary executions of Congolese people, all in the presence of MONUSCO, NGOs, UN Group of Experts and Human Rights Watch.

In November last year 219 women were savagely raped and they suffered permanent physical injuries. These crueland gruesome barbaric acts were ignored by the MONUSCO, NGOs, UN Group of Experts and Human Right Watch. In Syria thousands of Syrian people are being massacred every day and nothing has been done by the international community to end their suffering.

Today, the same cruel and brutal murderers that raped 219 women in Goma, Minova and Bukavu have joined forceswith MONUSCO under the guise of the so called “Intervention Brigade” in preparation to invade the already displaced people of North Kivu in the DRC. A people that have been undergoing a slow genocide for the past 53 years.

While the world is focusing on the 19th Commemoration of the Rwanda Genocide against the Tutsi, my Party would also like to draw the attention of the international community to look into the plight of the innocent, the defenseless and the downtrodden people of the Kivu region of the DRC and those of Syria and to do something to stop the on-going genocides that threaten the very existence of the two people and nations.
