Fiery Crash of Navy Jet Spares All

(VIRGINIA BEACH) - A U.S. Navy FA/18-D jet crashed into an apartment building in Virginia Beach today, just after take-off. Amazingly, according to reports, nobody died in the violent crash, however six people in the low-rise apartment complex were injured and transported from the scene.

The scene was described as a a massive inferno as the video clearly shows. The two naval aviators aboard the plane both survived:

"The two crew members ejected from the jet which hit a populated area in the eastern coastal tourist resort of Virginia Beach" - the Navy said on Twitter.

"RECAP -- what we know -- F18 from Strike Fighter Squadron 106 crashed in VA Beach. Both pilots ejected, more info as we get it," said a tweet on the official @USNavy account.

Fuel and debris from the crashed jet apparently covered a large area, the plane was based at the Ocean Naval Air Station in Virginia.

AFP reported that firefighters were desperately fighting the blaze, trying to bring it under control; it engulfed several buildings in this urban area. Witnesses said the plane came down suddenly. Jet fuel may have exacerbated the blaze.

Depending on the model, the unit cost for US taxpayers who will replace this aircraft, is $29-57 million (2006) per plane. These aircraft are frequently lost on training missions and each time one crashes, it takes with it the same investment that could easily be used to restore large portions of failing economy of the United States of America.

Since this nation's leaders decided expressly decided to make this country into an instrument of warfare, it has been watching the public quality of life slide downward, while placing literally all emphasis on war weapons like this plane.
