(BANDON, Ore.) - Oregon State Police say a Langlois-area man died Saturday afternoon when the vehicle he was operating crashed into a tree along Highway 101 south of Bandon. According to OSP Trooper Joshua Young, the fatal crash happened today around 12:12 p.m. as a 2005 Jeep Cherokee sport utility vehicle driven by 74-year old David Lawrence Allen of Langlois, was northbound on Highway 101 near milepost 279. "For an unknown reason, it crossed the center line and continued across the southbound lane before it left the roadway where it crashed into a large tree," Young said. Mr. Allen was transported to the Southern Coos General Hospital in Bandon where he was later pronounced deceased. The right front passenger in the vehicle, 45-year old Richard Anthony Standiford of Langlois, was transported to Southern Coos General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Both were using safety restraints and both airbags deployed, Young said. OSP troopers from the Coos Bay Area Command office are continuing the investigation with the assistance of the Coos County Medical Examiner's Office. The Bandon Fire Department, Bay Cities Ambulance, and the ODOT assisted at the scene. Trooper Young says Highway 101 was restricted to one lane of traffic, controlled by flaggers, for about 3 hours.
