(COOS BAY, Ore.) - The U.S. Coast Guard out of Coos Bay, Oregon and the Charleston Fire Department responded to a fire on the recreational vessel Sea Weed near Coos Bay, after receiving a distress call at 6:30 AM. A spokesman from the Coast Guard says the motor lifeboat Intrepid crew, from Station Coos Bay, contained the vessel fire by spraying it with foam. The crew then brought the vessel under tow and eventually secured it to a dock in Charleston Harbor with the fire department's assistance. There were no reported injuries associated with the burning vessel. The Coast Guard says a 47-foot motor lifeboat was also deployed from Station Coos Bay to assist with the situation. The cause of the vessel fire is unknown at this time. Articles for April 3, 2008 | Articles for April 4, 2008 | Articles for April 5, 2008 | Quick Links

The Coast Guard rocks! With everything going on overseas, don't forget that the CG has been carrying on it's mission (and doing more with less) for longer than any other maritime organizations.
