Insomnia Therapy: Marijuana Vs Sedatives

Marijuana wins hands down.

(PORTLAND, OR) - Insomnia, or inability to sleep well or long, affects almost all of us at least some of the time. Pain is probably the most common cause, but anxiety, nervousness, depression, or fear or any combination must be included. About 70% of my marijuana patients had pain to some degree. Most of them smoked or inhaled before going to bed to ensure sleep.

I am comparing marijuana against about ten various medications which most people have used before being introduced to marijuana. These include: Benadryl and certain other antihistamines, Melatonin, benzodiazapines, minor tranquilizers, anti-anxiety drugs, mild opiates, opioids, antidepressants, barbariturates and chloral. To make a flat statement, marijuana works better than any of them singularly or in any combination.

The actions of marijuana are mostly on the brain and about 27 medical conditions are helped by marijuana, and are modulated through the brain. Other conditions are spasm disorders such as Multiple Sclerosis, Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), and Crohns Disease cause enough pain that sedatives of some sort are required and marijuana also acts as an antispasmodic and anti-inflammatory.

Some medical conditions require immediate relief which is given by inhalation of marijuana fumes but some patients which chronic conditions require marijuana as repeated oral preparations. Patient s with frequent migraines or acute asthma attacks which can be very frightening and cause severe anxiety are given good relief. It also works for acute menopausal "hot flashes".

The best factor about marijuana as a sedative sleep aid is that it usually works for all degrees of insomnia whether slight or severe. One sedative in most common use is alcohol which if used frequently, results in alcohol addiction or alcoholism. Many of the sedatives mentioned above are habit forming or addicting. You can use marijuana to kick these habit forming or addicting drugs. Marijuana has a very low addiction liability.

MARIJUANA WORKS AGAIN, NO CONTEST!
